The Mornington Peninsula private tour

The Mornington Peninsula lies on the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay. From majestic scenery to quality wine estates, this region has it all. It is popular with locals from Melbourne who flock there on weekends and during the summer holidays, but outside of these times you are often able to find yourself on a deserted beach or at a scenic viewpoint without anyone else around. This is one of the attractive features of this region, for those who like to escape from large crowds of tourists and enjoy quiet, open spaces.

With Scene-A-Roo, you are free to tailor your tour according to what interests you. Please be aware that for the activities which incur a fee, such as horse riding, golf, hot springs and dolphin swims, it is essential to book in advance. Please notify us of any reservations which you have made, or contact us if you would like us to book for you.

It is easy to spend a whole day sightseeing in this region, driving first along the sheltered Port Phillip Bay side of the Mornington Peninsula, and then later along the wilder, ocean facing part of the Peninsula (or vice-versa). We recommend a visit to Arthurs Seat lookout, which at 309m is the highest part of the Mornington Peninsula. It has lovely views over Port Phillip Bay.

There are many popular wineries here, such as Red Hill EstateMontalto and Port Phillip Estate. We can visit the cellar and do wine tasting, either in the morning, or later in the afternoon. These wine estates have very popular and highly rated restaurants, which is an option for lunch (booking essential).

The road between Mount Martha and Portsea features sheltered bays and sandy beaches. At Portsea back beach, there is a unique rock formation known as London Bridge. The Point Nepean National Park has a shuttle bus service (adult $10, child $7.50) to Fort Nepean, which is a historical fort at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay. You can see some lovely scenery in this area.

The stretch between Cape Schanck and Flinders offers more short walks and dramatic scenery. You can do a guided private tour of historic Cape Schanck Lighthouse (adult $16, child to 16 years $9) or enjoy the spectacular views around the lighthouse, as well as the views from West Head in the seaside town of Flinders.

There are a lot of tourist activities on offer which incur a fee. At Arthurs Seat, you can ride the Eagle Skylift and enjoy the spectacular view. Heronswood House and Gardens is a stately manor with a beautiful botanical garden which is especially pretty in springtime. The Peninsula Hot Springs is an award-winning Japanese style outdoor hot spring which also has a spa offering massage and beauty treatments. Moonraker and Polperro offer dolphin and seal tours, the best season being between October and April. You can pick your own strawberries at Sunnyridge Strawberry Farm between November and April. Why not try horse riding on the stunning and empty St Andrew’s ocean beach?  It is suitable for beginners from age 10 and up. The Moonlit Sanctuary is a conservation reserve where you can see many unique Australian animals up close. There are also some of Australia’s best golf courses to choose from.

The Tour length is around 8 hours. Scene-A-Roo offers the Mornington Peninsula private tour in English, Japanese and Spanish.
